CHURCH, WAKE UP! BY SEUN FAKOREDE

CHURCH, WAKE UP!

GOD brought to my understanding recently that to complete the Great commission, we must have an immeasurably distinct impact upon the Nations of the earth and not just upon the people in Church.

The Great commission mandate is to go out and disciple Nations. The focus is not particularly the church but also the workings of the Church out there, that the world may be in proper synergy with the intentions of the Creator.

Little wonder Prophet Isaiah portrayed Jesus’ concern for the well-being of the Nation and running of the Government as one of Jesus’ major priorities. Isaiah 9:6-7: “For unto us a child is born and unto us a son is given:  and the government shall be upon his shoulders, and he shall be called: Wonderful, Counsellor, The Mighty God, The everlasting Father, the prince of peace. Of the increase of his government, and peace, there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom to order it, and to establish it with judgement and with justice from henceforth. The Zeal of the Lord of Host will perform this”. So therefore Jesus hopes and zealously works through us to achieve sanity in the running of the Nations of the earth. As redeemed people, we need to forever bear this in mind. The Great commission mandate as given in: Mathew 28:19 says; “Go and make disciples of ALL NATIONS” Jesus did not particularly say we go and build great churches, neither did he say we go and save and rule a few individuals, he never said "may thy church come on earth as it is in Heaven". Nor did He say "seek ye first the church and all its righteousness". Rather His heartbeat is for the Nations to be ruled by Kingdom principles. That is the calling of every Believer and every Church.

So why has our attention been lavished on personal evangelism and building “church buildings”? We often forget we have been called to rule our promised lands and to rule the Nations of the earth.

Most of us Christians shy away from holding positions of political authority, thereby allowing unbelievers the opportunity of calling the shots as regards to the Nation’s affairs. It’s high time we got on our heels and carry out what has been bestowed upon us. The Bible says in the book of Proverbs 29:2 “When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice, but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn”.
But then it is obvious that the wicked are still in authority in Nigeria, directly or indirectly. That’s why people are mourning and rejoicing will not come until the righteous bears the rule.

Fellow Believers, it is high time we woke up from our slumber, Christ has bestowed upon us the power because all power belongs and has being given unto him according to Mathew 28:18b “All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.”

We are then supposed to use the power and understanding at our disposal to teach and rule all Nations and not just for personal evangelism and building of church buildings alone.
The kingdom of God is at hand not in future or in heaven, and it is right within us. Luke17:21b: “The kingdom of God is within you.”

Listen, nobody has to die to see the kingdom. Jesus didn’t leave the kingdom of God in heaven when He came to earth, He brought it with him. SO WAKE UP! Stop hoping for it. It came two thousand years ago and it is present with us now. Forgetting or not accepting that the kingdom is here and now is failing from our calling to disciple Nations to operate in the kingdom principles. A lot of Christians are too security conscious and want to use the church as their escape flap from the world’s challenges.

Certainly, the warfare is a fierce one, but GOD doesn’t desire that Christians keep a low profile in regards to politics and governance, but to have a sustainable impact in the lives on individuals by running the affairs of the Nations of the world. Christians shouldn’t be afraid of all the calamities in the world presently, even the Bible says in Psalms 34:19 “Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivereth him out of them all.”

The world is getting the darker, and unfortunately friends, it will only get darker, but that’s so our light could shine even brighter, but what happens if we now refuse to make our light shine out of fear and timidity. It is when we make our light shine that the world will be a better place and the people of the world will have no choice than to give Glory to our Father who is in heaven. Mathew 5:16. “Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your father which is in heaven.”

We need freedom from the bondage of fear; for we have not received the Spirit of bondage again to fear but of power and love and of a sound mind.

Believers, where is the power, the love and the sound mind? Why are we trying to play safe when we are supposed to pay the price of safety which Christ has freely given us grace to?
The promise of God is “Ask of me and I will make the Nations your inheritance” Psalm 2:8. Our responsibility is not just for sanctuaries and tabernacle but for ALL NATIONS.

Our call is to restore the kingdom of the world we are in to be in synergy with the Kingdom of God. The reason why Nigeria is suffering under a Godless culture and leadership is because we Christians have decided not to subdue it with the Kingdom principles, rather we allow shallow headed individuals who have no morals at all take power, and all we do is complain in our closet and fuse from our pulpits, thereby achieving no result.

Look! Working in the Sunday school or singing in the choir or working with the technical or ushering department is not the fulfilment of the ministry, all these are by the way; they are not really the Ministry but just housekeeping. Our various work as Choristers, Sunday School Teachers, Ushers, Greeters, Decorators or what so ever is what we all must do to keep the church functioning, but it’s not necessarily fulfilling the Great commission.

Frankly, the great commission happens outside the church building. And according to Sunday Adelaja, “Ministry is what you do to bring your life and your sphere of influence under the Kingdom rule”.

Our hearts should be renewed and re-equipped with the Kingdom driven principles and be purged from all unscriptural and worldly principles. Once again, seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself.

Nigerian Christians in general and University Christians in particular (because this move will be championed on the shoulders of young men), let’s do that which we can in our own capacity. Let’s not over bother ourselves with the future and what it will bring. God will help us deal with whatever difficulty and persecution that we are bound to face.

So, I call on Church Pastors/Leaders and members to take this to heart and be a part of the polity that operates in and around us and join in the propagation of good governance so as to channel the end result to the best direction possible.
Please, don’t be an onlooker!
